5 things to do in Barcelona

I love escaping further south from where we live in France regardless of season you are bound to find sunshine, great food and great shopping in Barcelona.  We’re fortunate enough to be able to road trip there often and if this place is on your travel list 5 things to consider are;

Mercado de La Boqueria;

wonder, buy fresh produce, taste

Walking on La Ramblas towards the port? do not miss the opportunity to stop in and get amongst the hustle and bustle at Mercado de La Boqueria, the market offers great fresh produce an opportunity to taste a bit of everything if your wanting to brunch the seated food vendors are to the left when you enter the market.

Gothic Quarter;

stroll, shop, find a photo op

Walk the quieter streets of the gothic quarter with their boutique style shops for small leather goods and mosaic style decor.  Go to my favourtie boutique Home on Earth they offer homeware goods and jewlery for those who love nordic design.  The store focuses on using mostly natural materials like bamboo, wool, coconut, mango, hemp and cotton.  The company works closely with producers of products with an aim to improve working conditions and ensure fair wages are being offered.  It’s a great store to find little gifts to take home for others or treats for yourself and home.

La Flauta

try huevos cabredos (angry eggs)

Tapas a traditional style of eating for the spanish was also created for people like me who love food, can’t make up their mind and want to try a bit of everything at least thats how I see it.  Our favourite restaruant la Flauta has been running for over 25 years and I’d recommend you try a mix of tapas some of my favorites are huevos cabredos,  patatas bravas, croquetas de jamón (ham croquettes) and parrilladas (grilled vegetables), order the house specialty la flauta bread (thin style baguette rubbed with tomato) simple yet delicious.

I was hesitant to go until finding out just recently from the hours of 12pm – 9pm this bar is family friendly! located on the beach amongst other restaurants facing the Mediterranean sea Ice Barcelona is the first ice bar on the beach in the world.  The constant temperature is -5ºC (20ºF), the theme of the lounge, lighting and sculptures are changed at least twice a year where the average visit lasts 45 minutes.  Your given a jacket gloves and a drink in an ice cup which is included in the price of your ticket.  During summer or on the weekends book online so not to miss out and as a bonus you get 10% off your ticket which costs 17.50 euro family packages are available and they also provide jackets and gloves for young ones…winning! I’ll have to add photos once I’ve entered during the ‘family friendly civil hours’
